Off to Nairobi

Security at the Juba airport is real tight, we had to walk through a very thick curtain to get into the terminal.

As if it wasn't enough that we had to pay fifty dollars to LEAVE Juba they charged us six dollars to make a photo copy of our passport.

Wait...

Does anyone still read this?

Or remember us?

(that's goat intestine lining)

Hashers

There is a million year old "running" club called the Hash, apparently, in most major cities around the world. When we first got to Juba, we asked some friends where Sarah could find some good Kenyan running company. They sent us to these folks. They do a bunch of campy things and then run and the have a beer. Somehow Crystal, world's worst people pleaser ever, jokingly volunteered to host the hash at our ghetto hotel, and they took us up on it.

Here she is, making the trail.

Here is the boy that followed us.

Here is the campy stuff. Our friend Florence got her Hash Name.

Sarah always hated summer camp.

On the job

Anthropologists do it with sensitivity.

Jebel, Martyr's Day

Yesterday was a holiday honoring the 2.5 million martyrs of the civil war. That meant there was no hope for accomplishing any research. So we hiked!

Here's the quintessential travel mate photo you've all been waiting for! (Still haven't begun sharing panties.)

Our tour guides, Cameron and Terah.

America Lessons

In a desperate attempt to change up the menu, Crystal made fish tacos with the proud chef. They were good. So funny how the same food stuffs cooked (and not cooked) in a different order makes such a big difference.

She also taught a dozen SPLA soldiers how to play speed and shuffle a deck of cards. Growing up in daycare really paid off! We also discussed how polygamy is illegal in America... to which they retorted... "If there is a banquet and there is plenty of food for everyone, what is the problem?"

Sarah has reached her low. Resorting to her hoarded mini bottles of Jack Daniels from the flight (four weeks ago).

However... this photo found in the iphoto archives seems to be getting her through the days.

Black unitard palazzo pants

Angelina Jolie is driving me crazy.

Splitends

Which do you think makes more money, the exclusive salon or the one that offers phone charging too?

Not for da vegan friends

We negotiated a free ride to the grocery store with our hotel employees. They'd drop us off at Jit, then go and pick the goat for dinner and come back for us.

They asked us to slaughter it; we asked if we could keep it in our room.

Sarah got the play-by-play, "you took Biology classes, right?", from the way to know it was grass fed to the lop-sided balls.

The Pike.

If you make fun of all the Munus who get Boda burns, God avenges.

Generous grad student funding

Trailor trash and proud. Some UN employees kindly dropped us off the other night and bewilderedly asked, "you stay here?"
