On the job

Anthropologists do it with sensitivity.

Jebel, Martyr's Day

Yesterday was a holiday honoring the 2.5 million martyrs of the civil war. That meant there was no hope for accomplishing any research. So we hiked!

Here's the quintessential travel mate photo you've all been waiting for! (Still haven't begun sharing panties.)

Our tour guides, Cameron and Terah.

America Lessons

In a desperate attempt to change up the menu, Crystal made fish tacos with the proud chef. They were good. So funny how the same food stuffs cooked (and not cooked) in a different order makes such a big difference.

She also taught a dozen SPLA soldiers how to play speed and shuffle a deck of cards. Growing up in daycare really paid off! We also discussed how polygamy is illegal in America... to which they retorted... "If there is a banquet and there is plenty of food for everyone, what is the problem?"

Sarah has reached her low. Resorting to her hoarded mini bottles of Jack Daniels from the flight (four weeks ago).

However... this photo found in the iphoto archives seems to be getting her through the days.

Black unitard palazzo pants

Angelina Jolie is driving me crazy.

Splitends

Which do you think makes more money, the exclusive salon or the one that offers phone charging too?

Not for da vegan friends

We negotiated a free ride to the grocery store with our hotel employees. They'd drop us off at Jit, then go and pick the goat for dinner and come back for us.

They asked us to slaughter it; we asked if we could keep it in our room.

Sarah got the play-by-play, "you took Biology classes, right?", from the way to know it was grass fed to the lop-sided balls.

The Pike.

If you make fun of all the Munus who get Boda burns, God avenges.

Generous grad student funding

Trailor trash and proud. Some UN employees kindly dropped us off the other night and bewilderedly asked, "you stay here?"

The W prices, South Sudan Luxury. At least it has AC?

Post war garden oasis

What happened to Crystal's promise of paradise?

Love in the time of Cholera.

Baby Bjorn.

Bus

Kelli,

The windshield you have is the norm over here, don't worry, they never fall in (even on dirt roads). Our dad's were right, put a tarp on it and call it a day.

Sarah's running partners.

Jubalee!

War is over!

Africa's delicacies

Yogurt butt in 3-2-1.

Saloon

Saloons and Baber shops are all over.

It's safe to say that Africa voted Obama.

Elf Shoes

This one is for Becky, elf shoes made of bike tires.

After choking down fresh maiz and tea, just before the lengthy in-home church service.

Leo, grinning ear to ear, reading his letter from Emily.

The old Obangatek orphanage compound is now a restaurant. We got supremely ripped off there. Ironic? Are you there God? It's me Crystal.

Key Emily is stubborn still, just like her namesake.

Photo by Joshua. He does weddings, too.

We are starting our own bicycle boda business when we get home. Pike to Prospector 200 shillings.

Even though our flight took off 5 minutes too early to meet her, we are glad technology keeps us in the loop. The cock and the lady in the background welcome her.

Sarah is picking up Crystal's habits.

Hippie.

Baby's first Boda

Sarah likes to be in the middle spot so she can grope the driver.

Went to a great comedy night. Even though it was in English there was a lot lost in translation.
Our two favorite jokes:
"Michael Jackson is a pop star. He invented the pop corn machine."...and...
"I asked my wife what she wanted to do tonight, and she was putting lipstick all over her forehead. When I asked her what she was doing she said she was just making up her mind."

Our friend Nana took us to her cousin's bachelor party. She had each of her bazillion cousins buy us a drink.
One said, "if it wasn't for Michael Jackson, you guys wouldn't even be talking".
{Rest assured, there was ample coverage of the funeral here.}

Bomb ginger ale called Stoney.

Sarah made it through the series of flights without a panic attack. She looks curiously upon Africa.

Crystal gets kankles because she made so much fun of Kelli's. P.S. Can we get some pics of Sloane pronto? We're dying here!
